One of the things that separate world-class application packages from the rest is how well they conform to the preferences of the user. Software is infinitely malleable, and having it obey your favorite commands rather than what the designers thought might be best makes it much more comfortable to use.
Applixware Office follows a tried-and-true formula
for letting users change the behavior of the Applixware
programs. Every action the program takes and all the GUI elements
represent macros. The Preferences utility allows any macro to
be assigned to any menu entry, or to any icon or text in the tool
bar, or to any unused keystroke. This means that if the user prefers
some action to issue a command, Applixware office tools can probably
be configured so that the users preferred action issues that
command. The world would be a better place if all applications had
this capability.
